♦ Salisbury Police Department sources report that Salisbury Police Officer J.E. Johansen was allegedly the victim of an “assault on a government official” in the parking lot of the Speedway filling station on 500 E. Innes Street, long noted as a magnet for crime where muggings, purse snatchings, broken bottle fights, knifings, and other miscreant behaviors occur with regularity.  It is alleged that a segment of “Bum Fights” was filmed here when the filling station was known as “Wilco Hess”.  We’ve been unable to confirm that such a videoed “sporting event” took place a 500 E. Innes although homeless men and women frequently battle here.

According to reports Dwayne Maurice Hall, 50, of the streets of Salisbury, allegedly threatened and physically assaulted police officer J.E. Johansen, 40, on Friday at 12:15 a.m. It’s reported that officer Johansen sustained no injuries during the assault. Hall was arrested a short time later.

Under a secured $10,000 bond, Hall is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center. His first court appearance is scheduled for August 6th the 73rd anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
